Jillian Thompson was born in Hays Kansas, in 1988. She grew up in rural Kansas and Nebraska, graduating high school in Cambridge Nebraska in 2007. She received her BFA in 2012 from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. It was here that she worked under her mentor Tobias Flores, and fell in love with the sculptural process’s that she still employs today, such as casting and fabricating. Jillian uses a variety of materials to create her forms, such as clay, foam, or fabric. She then transforms these forms to metal using the casting process. Currently, Jillian is living in southern Illinois, working toward her MFA at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She will be graduating from SIUC in May 2015. After graduating she plans to stay in the area, and pursue her career as an artist.
